School’s out, art’s in School is almost out and local students want to show you they have learned a thing or two. Beginning Saturday, April 22, two exhibits will showcase the work of students graduating from the University of New Hampshire’s Department of Art and Art History in Durham. The 2006 Senior B.A. and B.F.A. Exhibition and the 2006 M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition (I) both offer paintings, ceramics, sculpture, photography, drawing, printmaking and furniture design. The artists will be present for a free preview reception on Friday, April 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. The 2006 Senior B.A. and B.F.A. Exhibition (open until May 20) will showcase the work of students including Shane Chick, Adam D. Getz, Rachel Huckins, Sara Korpi, Bethany Lowe, Kathleen McCaffery, Alexis McConnell, Erin Elizabeth Miley, Kate E. Muckenhirn, Rebecca O’Brien Pani and Brandy Reeves. In addition, a special installation will feature art by Thomas C. Call of Windham; Sofie H. Larsen of Durham; Kathryn Niboli of Newport; Toby M. Schreier of Portsmouth; and Rebecca Simpson of Dover. Photographer Call’s triptych collages of black-and-white images highlight spacial relationships found in natural and man-made environments. Meanwhile, at the master’s level, the 2006 M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition, which features the work of candidates Justin Augspurg and Julie Lucca, will explore the use of color and expressive movement. The 2006 M.F.A. Thesis Exhibition will be on view through May 3. Both shows free and open to the public at UNH-Durham’s Art Gallery, in the Paul Creative Arts Center. The Art Gallery is open during the academic year: Monday through Wednesday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Thursday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; and Saturday and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m.; closed Fridays and on May 4 through 9, and during university holidays.
