• Old-fashioned: Silhouette artist Carol Lebeaux will be at Expressions Gallery, 172 South St., Milford, Saturday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to create hand-cut portraits. Schedule a ten-minute sitting with her for $33.95. Expressions (expressionsgalleryinc.com) reports that Lebeaux’s favorite subjects are children, but she also cuts family and couples’ portraits, and will cut pet portraits from photos. • In the wild: A hybrid event with New Hampshire artists who are also nature enthusiasts, the third annual “Artists in the Natural Resources” will offer art and family nature activities. Kids can try nature prints and leaf pressing Saturday, Oct. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 22, from noon to 3 p.m. “Nature’s Treasure Hunt” is ongoing both days as well. A nature walk for artistic observation starts 1 p.m. Oct. 21 and the NH Fish and Game Department presents “Beauty and the Beasts: Designing for Backyard Wildlife” at 1 p.m. Oct. 22. The events are at the Fox Research & Demonstration Forest, 309 Center Road, Hillsborough, and are sponsored by the NH Division of Forests and Lands and UNH Cooperative Extension. • Artisans abound: The Dunstable Artisans’ 18th annual show and sale features pottery, photography, silver, woodwork, prints, knits, and weaving from 29 area artisans Saturday, Oct. 21, and Sunday, Oct. 22, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Groton North Middle School, Rt. 119, Groton, Mass., (978)597-5464. There’s a $2 admission charge to benefit the group’s high school scholarship fund and a slide show of available work at dunstableartisans.org.
• UNH connections: Contemporary artists interpret ancient myths and heroes in the Three Graces show, 105 Market St., Portsmouth, 436-1988, through Nov. 4. Mel Zabarsky, UNH professor emeritus, has had work exhibited in private and public collections including The Museum of Modern Art in New York, The Boston Public Library and The Addison Gallery of American Art. Joyce Reopel also taught at UNH; her work is in collections including the Fogg Art Museum of Harvard and the De Cordova Museum in Boston. UNH alum Kim Ferreira, owner and curator of Three Graces Gallery, is showing as well.
• The mysterious grant: Artists, get free help understanding grant processes and which ones may be specific to you at the free State Arts Council sessions Oct. 23 through Oct. 27 at 2½ Beacon St., Concord. You need to register for one by Oct. 22 by calling 271-2789. Schools, community groups and nonprofit arts organizations can also benefit.
