Nominate your favorite for Governor’s Arts Awards

• Flowers to match: The “Art in Bloom” fine art exhibit at Anderson-Soule Gallery, 2 Capital Plaza, Concord, 228-3800, runs through Feb. 2. However, the floral-inspired works are a prelude to a more fleeting display—Concord Garden Club’s floral design exhibit Jan. 25 through Jan. 27. Seven professionals will create arrangements inspired by the artwork of printmaker Christine Destrempes, oil painters Charlie Goodwin, Tracy Helgeson, Deb Kinson, Michael Roundy and Sydney Bella Sparrow and Keong Kim, whose Braille-inspired wall hangings incorporate metal and stone.
• Similar vision: “Shared Sensibilities—Watercolors, Pastels, and Oils” runs through Jan. 29 at the PCA Gallery, 10 Lincoln St., Westford, Mass., (978) 692-6333. A reception is Sunday, Jan. 7, from 3 to 5 p.m. with artists Kevin Daley, Jeanne Failler and Margo Kelley. Daley’s oils and acrylics capture his passion for coastal Maine and his response to the light and form of cities. Fallier’s landscapes record her travels. Kelley has established herself as a portraitist of animals and a painter of gardens and seascapes.
• Female perspective: Women are the topic of “Art Bites,” the monthly lunchtime talk at Currier Downtown, 52 Hanover St., Manchester, 668-0256, Thursday, Jan. 4, at 12:30 p.m. “Speaking of Women” will explore the lives and styles of women artists as well as how artists have depicted the female subject. The talk is free but bring your own lunch.
• Banking on art: Hampshire First Bank, Inc., a state-chartered commercial bank, is using 221 Main St., Nashua lobby as gallery space. Artists Bea Jilette, Monique Sakellarios, Tom Gill, Marilene Sawaf, Igor Muslinov, Jocelyn Molleur, Marie Corcoran, Paula Super, Coleen Legere, Bob Huntly and Sarah Roche are currently featured.The bank expects to rotate artwork every two months. Cathy Kert of Beckonings interior decorating firm is coordinating displays.
• Governor’s choice: The call is out for nominations for the 2007 Governor’s Arts Awards. These honors are only awarded every two years and recognize contributions to excellence, growth, support and availability of arts in the state. The Lotte Jacobi Living Treasure Award recognizes a professional New Hampshire artist’s lifetime achievement. Other awards are given for folk heritage, individual arts patronage, distinguished arts leadership, arts education, community spirit and cultural access leadership. Governor John Lynch will announce the recipients of the Governor’s Arts Awards in October 2007. The deadline to nominate is April 20 and further description of awards and the nomination form are at nh.gov/nharts.
