Three days of merriment Among Manchester’s former Millyard buildings is Langer Place, which houses many creative businesses and artists. Several tenants will open their workspaces to the public for the Langer Place Holiday Open House, which starts with Manchester’s Open Doors trolley tour Thursday, Nov. 29, and continues through Saturday, Dec. 1, at 55 South Commercial St. There will be artist demonstrations, live music, food and a Santa visit. It’s usually well attended, even last year during bad weather, said Randy Knowles, an open house organizer and member of the East Colony Fine Art Gallery. “We’ve actually found that it brings people into the building because they’re interested in seeing the working studios that usually aren’t open,” Knowles said. Some of the upper-floor studios are only open to the public during Open Doors and this event, including Ingbretson Studio of Painting and Drawing. Artists there are trained in the manner passed down from the Renaissance guilds through the 19th-century ateliers. Paul Ingbretson is the founder and master artist of the studio, where completed representational pieces and works in progress will be displayed. Painter Dennis Sheehan normally opens his studio and gallery by appointment. Charles Baroody’s visual art studio is normally closed, but the public is welcome from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday during the open house, when he will feature stoneware by Bruce Haber and Barbara Huntress’ “very unique landscape-type collages,” Baroody said. The Charles Baroody Studio/Gallery will be open to the public for the remainder of the holiday season. The 27 East Colony artists will have original work available and host art demonstrations Friday. Meet featured artists Jeanne Lachance and Cathleen Leavitt at a reception Saturday at 4 p.m. Their show, “Inside Out,” highlights Cathleen’s still-life pastels of fruit and flowers and Jeanne’s acrylic and oil paintings from a recent trip to the canyons of Utah. Other spaces, such as Hatfield Gallery, will also offer prints, note cards and special gift items. See demonstrations Saturday by Darlene Robyn, who creates watercolor Asian artwork, and Dan Kuenzig and Claudette Gammon, who work in watercolor and oils, at Hatfield. Santa is expected to visit Hatfield Saturday afternoon. Althea Haropulos and Karen Bessette present their annual Art for Giving and Living show and sale in the photography studio of Althea Haropulos. Bassette, a Rhode Island School of Design alum, uses found images, especially sheet music and maps, in her collages. She’s also designed a credit card for St. Mary’s Bank and street banners for Manchester. Prints and ornaments will also be available. Concord High School’s honors jazz musicians will perform there Saturday. The Majestic Theatre community group performs their “Christmas on the Go” holiday revue at 6 and 7 p.m. Thursday and 6 p.m. Friday in the building. Bagpipers perform Friday and Saturday. Portrait and wedding photographer Jeff Dachowski’s studio will be open, as will Sage Photography Studios. Cabinet maker Ed Reinish and Dovetailed Kitchens are welcoming visitors; so is ArtPad, the working studio of artist Adrienne Silversmith. Quilter Elizabeth Jones opens her studio for the first time and has invited oil painter Jill Greenwood and pastel painter Suzanne Whittaker to join her. New Hampshire Institute of Art features its juried 2007 Biennial of recent works at its galleries at 148 Concord St., 77 Amherst St. and 165 Hanover St. Families can work on art projects at the Currier Downtown, 52 Hanover St. The Hillside School Chorus and Orchestra perform at the Manchester Artist Association Gallery, 1528 Elm St. The SEE Science Center, 200 Bedford St.; Millyard Museum, 255 Commercial St.; Manchester Community Access Media, 540 Commercial St.; and Franco American Centre, 52 Concord St., will also be open.
