New shows and new lectures

• Scottish theme: Run by artists, East Colony Fine Art Gallery features work by their members Roxanne Labbe and Judy McLean in a show called “From Argyles to Abstracts.” McLean displays a series of watercolor paintings on clayboard of Scotland. Labbe shows abstracts in oil, and one is reminiscent of a Scottish tartan, according to a press release. Meet them Saturday, Nov. 29, between 1 and 4 p.m. at an exhibit opening. The show runs from Nov. 25 through Dec. 27. The fee is $40 fee, call 668-5760 to sign up. East Colony is in Langer Place, 55 South Commercial St., Manchester (621-7400, www.eastcolony.com). Classes are also held there, and Laurel Jamieson holds an Open Studio Class at East Colony, Saturday, Dec. 6, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
• New learning opportunities: “Marcus Greene – An Imagined World” at the New Hampshire Institute of Art involves many different media. Greene will talk about his exhibit during a new series at the institute, “Art @ Noon,” Tuesday, Nov. 25, at, of course, noon, in the Amherst Street Gallery, 77 Amherst St. in Manchester. Roger Goldenberg discusses how music inspires his artwork at the next installment in the series, Tuesday, Dec. 2, in the French Auditorium, 148 Concord St. A new art history lecture series is also going on with Dr. Andrew Hershberger, Special Collections Visiting Scholar, talking about NHIA’s rare photography book collection Thursday, Dec. 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the French Auditorium. • Riv faculty show off: Recent works by the Rivier College faculty are at Rivier College Art Gallery through Dec. 9. There’s a reception and artist panel discussion Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 2:30 p.m. The exhibit is part of Rivier’s 75th anniversary celebration. See work by Sr. Theresa Couture, Clifford Davis, Willard Hall, Loretta C.R. Hubley, Ron McClure, Sheli Petersen and Patti Schappler. Media include printmaking, painting, sculpture, drawing/illustration, photography and digital imaging. The Gallery is on the second floor of Memorial Hall at 435 South Main St. in Nashua (897-8276).
• Watercolors at the library: Meet Diane Statkum and Pat Hurd on Sunday, Nov. 30, from 2 to 4 p.m. at an opening for an exhibit of their watercolors at the Nashua Public Library. Statkum and Hurd are members of the Nashua Area Artists Association, Hollis Arts Society and the Rivier Institute for Senior Education Art Interest Group. Hurd, of Nashua, has exhibited at the Rivier College Gallery, Elizabeth’s Art Gallery, Canal Street Collectibles and Framing and Sharon Arts Gallery. Statkum recently illustrated The Story of How They Banished Pickled Frogs’ Legs Forever: A Fable for Eco-Minded Grownups, by Nashua author Georgi Hippauf. Nashua Library is at 2 Court St. (589-4610).
