Wine and desire

• At E.W. Poore: Stop inside E.W. Poore at 531 Front St. in Manchester to view pastels and oils by Mary Buergin of New Boston, featured there through Feb. 15. E.W. Poore is currently seeking artists for a juried show to run from March 17 through April 18. Guidelines are posted at www.ewpoore.com or call 622-3802. 

• Pictures of wine: The Imported Grape, LLC, brings wines from Argentina, Chile and Uruguay to the Currier Museum of Art during the museum’s monthly “First Thursday” evening hours. “The Art of Wine Tasting” Thursday, Feb. 5, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., provides an opportunity to try Carmenère, Malbec and Tannat and enjoy hors d’oeuvres at 6 p.m. A museum tour, “Eat, Drink, and Be Merry,” starts at 5:30 p.m., at 150 Ash St. in Manchester. Event admission costs $12 for members and $22 non-members; reservations are required. Visit www.currier.org or call 669-6144.

• Best in show: Trevor Smith, a Peabody Essex Museum curator, juried the 61st New Hampshire Art Association exhibition, which is at the Currier through Feb. 16. Smith also chose which of the 50 selected works to award. A Currier Museum of Art “Best of Show” Award went to mixed media artist Ryan Lefebvre of Manchester. The Ezekiel A. Straw Memorial Award for Photography went to Claudia Rippee of Manchester. The Dr. Paul and Duddy Costello Memorial Award for Mixed Media went to Robert Johnson Jr. of Bow. Five other prizes were given.

• Openings: View a range of affordable works exhibited in “Love, Lust & Desire” at McGowan Fine Art, 10 Hills Ave. in Concord (225-2515, www.mcgowanfineart.com), at a reception Friday, Jan. 30, from 5 to 7 p.m. Coming up in Manchester is the monthly gallery reception and weekly tasting at the Wine Studio, Thursday, Feb. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. Heather Haynes’ nature photography, “Outside Looking In,” shows in February at 53 Hooksett Road (622-9463, www.thewinestudionh.com).

In Concord, The League of New Hampshire Craftsmen opens a new exhibit at their Gallery 205 with a reception Friday, Feb. 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. (snow date Feb. 13) at 205 North Main St. (224-3375, www.nhcrafts.org). Pottery, wood, fiber and other media from the juried members reference plant life through the four seasons in “Garden Imagery,” according to a release.
