Publisher's Note: Go Glendi!
By Jody Reese
The bad news is that summer is almost over, but the good news is that the end of summer means it’s time for Glendi, this region’s largest Greek festival and a great community event.
Glendi is being held at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral on Hanover Street in Manchester this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The festival is the church’s annual fundraiser and goes to help run the church, maintain the gym (which is used for all sort of community events, such as youth basketball) and support local charities.
That Glendi raises money for many great causes is really icing on the cake. The event is a mecca of local Greek food, and a place where Manchester residents can catch up with their neighbors. If you’ve never been (and there still are a few of you out there), go give it a try. The food is excellent. They have plenty of traditional Greek foods and pastries plus favorites such as ice cream on top of non-food activities for the kids. And then, of course, there’s all the people — 30,000 or so over the three days. It’s a great place to see old friends and apprciate what makes Manchester great — its people.
Cities aren’t collections of buildings. They’re collections of people and Glendi brings the best out in Manchester.
See you there.
