Small treasures discovered at Art 3

Small treasures await discovery at Art 3 Gallery during a show of small, reasonably-priced works for the next few weeks called "Small Works."

Art 3 is an art gallery and art consultant firm. For the last 23 years, co-owners Lee Forgosh and Joni Taube have worked to find the right artwork for the right space for the right person.

Forgosh and Taube travel to offices to assess the size and shape of the artwork required. Working within the customer's budget, they find the perfect gem. Forgosh invites the public to come into the gallery to purchase artwork.

Pieces displayed include the following

  • Alabama artist Darrell Ezekiel has a whimsical piece near the front desk-a charming hen with five eggs.
  • Dennis Perrin creates oil paintings reminiscent of Sargent interiors.
  • Jan Dolen, a nationally known and collected artist, shows "White Roses." One can almost smell their fragrance.
  • Ann Trainor Domingue's collage work of the old mills and the Manchester arch is stunning.
  • Paul Ware works with acrylic gels and paint on copper. His paintings make one think of cloisonnÈ or paintings on enamel. "The Worried Saint" or "St. Elias" is simple and evokes powerful emotion by capturing the subject's expression;
  • Rosemary Boyle's mixed media work includes two of my favorites-"Doll and Chairs" and "Yellow Flower."
  • Chicago-based Nancy Rosen shows a series of oil pastels on raw linen.
  • Claudia Michael's bold, new watercolor series is mounted by the staircase and beckons us to the second floor.
  • Georgina Bartholomew's lush watercolors are here, including my favorite piece of hers-"View from the Grande Comiche."
  • Lisa Occhipinti's paintings on playing cards make a powerful statement, as the veiled images emerge from the background. Her "Contessa" creates a "push/pull" dichotomy. Upstairs, Occhipinti's imaginative mixed media work on canvas taunts and delights our imagination.
  • Gail Sauter, known for her pastels, breaks new ground with a series of knock-out oil landscapes.

"Small Works" runs through Jan. 31 at Art 3 Gallery. Hours are Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., or by appointment. Call 668-6650 for more information. Art 3 is located at 44 West Brook St.
