The cat is hep, the cat is blue Why is he blue? That’s for you to find out. “The Blue Cat Walks the Earth” is a performance of poetry set to jazz, featuring 24 poems by F.D. Reeve. The show will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in the Gruber Recital Hall of Manchester Community Music School at 2291 Elm St. Admission is free and open to the public. Reeve will read; the music will be played by MCMS faculty members Joe Deleault and Don Davis. Deleault, a composer and session pianist, has performed at The Discover Jazz Festival, the Manchester Blues and Jazz Festival, at The House of Blues, Scullers Jazz Club and many other venues; he was voted best original performer of 2006 by the Hippo. His playing can be heard on the Dawson’s Creek Season 2 DVD. Don Davis, saxophonist, studied at Berklee College of Music and at Creative Music Studio in New York; he has performed and recorded with LL Cool J, Toots and the Maytals, and many others, and is a member of the New Hampshire Jazz Orchestra. Reeve is a poet, novelist, and critic, published in literary journals across the country. Now retired from academia, he taught at Columbia and in Wesleyan’s Russian Department. The event is part of the 2007/2008 installment of the school’s Manchester Chamber Players Concert Series, now in its 14th season. For more information, call 644-4548 or visit www.mcmusicschool.org.
