Down 'n Dirty Bar B Q: 168 Amory St., Manchester; 624-2224. Closed Mondays. Authentic southern pit BBQ where hickory wood is the fuel of choice. Small, cozy; plenty of paper towels on hand for a messy good time. Don't leave without trying the baked beans.

KC's Rib Shack: 837 Second St., Manchester; 627-7427. Closed Mondays. Award-winning hickory-smoked chicken and pork ribs, North Carolina pulled pork - yum! In addition to great barbecue, only place in town offering deep fried pickles.
