Basil's Restaurant: 2 Highlander Way, Manchester; 625-6426. Fine dining at the Highlander Inn at the edge of the Manchester Airport. Great place to linger - don't come here if you have to catch a plane right away.

Baldwin's on Elm: Reservations accepted daily. Gourmet menu with seasonal specialties and extensive wine list. Cool urban bistro atmosphere. Gives Richard's Bistro a run for the title of best in downtown Manchester.

Bedford Village Inn: Village Inn Lane, Route 101, Bedford; 472-2001. One of New Hampshire's finest dining rooms, located in renovated country estate. Extensive wine cellar. Visit the attached pub area just for one of the pastry chef's spectacular desserts. Among the best anywhere.

The Chateau: 201 Hanover St., Manchester; 627-2677. A time-honored downtown favorite with a popular Sunday Brunch. New "Tenderloin Room Steakhouse and Martini Lounge" open Wednesday-Sunday features high-powered menu of steak and seafood favorites.

C.R. Sparks: 18 Kilton Rd., just off South River Road, Bedford; 647-7275. Open concept kitchen, wood-fired oven and open-flame grill. Menu features contemporary cuisine with eclectic influence, resulting in dishes such as the Asian sea scallop salad. 

Omega: 494 Elm St., Manchester; 668-7997. Recently opened restaurant bills itself as "avant garde" aiming for upscale crowd for dining and dancing. Wide-ranging menu with something for everyone; 13 martinis to choose from. Open daily until 1 a.m.

Richard's Bistro: 36 Lowell St., Manchester; 644-1180. Still a shining beacon of excellence in the Manchester dining scene. Charming intimate space with some of the best food in New Hampshire. A favorite upscale eatery.

UnWined: 865 Second St., Manchester; 625-9463. A living room atmosphere and a selection of 100 kinds of wine, along with light hors d'oeuvres and full dinner menu. Live music on Wednesdays and Sundays.

The Yard Seafood and Steakhouse: Junction of Mammoth Road and South Willow Street, Manchester; 623-3545. Newly renovated dining room, now offering brick-oven pizza. Open seven days. Big-time place for Sunday brunch. Open Monday-Friday for lunch.
