BBQ
Meat + fire = delicious

By Hippo Staff letters@hippopress.com

For some diehard northerners, grill season never ends.

Even on the coldest days in February, they’ll put on some gloves, fire up the grill and cook over a flame.

But for most of us, it’s summer that is the season of cooking outdoors. And, if you venture beyond the hot dog and hamburger basics, you’ll eventually enter the realm of the dedicated griller — the person who can take about smoking versus grilling, about sauce versus dry rub, about the glories of cooking low and slow.

LONGSHOTS: A great experience came in the Knick of time
by Dave Long

I’ve had several great experiences following teams during a particular era. My two favorite here are Larry Bird’s Celtics in the 1980s and the Brady and Coach B Patriots since 2001. And I’ll throw in the KG Cs as well. I love the way they all play/played and how they delivered when it counted most. And then there were the Yanks from right before the dynasty’s collapse into the mid-’80s when I checked out after some pretty bad behavior by the owner.

By Linda A. Thompson-Odum food@hippopress.com

Ain’t it always the way for dads — Fathers’ Day doesn’t get quite as much of a to-do as Mother’s Day.
