Pour yourself a tall, cool glass of summer
A full schedule of Memorial Day weekend events plus 15 more weekends of big summer fun
By Hippo Staff letters@hippopress.com

Finally, it’s summer!

Is it just us, or did this winter seem particularly long? Was it the crummy weather? All the talk about a crummy economy? Whatever it was, the world suddenly seems, well, sunnier. And with Memorial Day weekend upon us, we have now, unofficially at least, entered the blissful days of summer, the days of sweet drinks with little umbrellas in them.

PEOPLE: The red report
Tom DeRosa gets the GOP talking
By Jeff Mucciarone jmucciarone@hippopress.com

Tom DeRosa figured if BlueHampshire.com caught some attention, RedHampshire.com could well do the same. The former political director for the state Republican party, DeRosa founded the Web site for Republicans to toss ideas back and forth. “It’s a conversation,” he said. With the GOP vying for any seat it can get in 2010 and with the races for governor, Senate and two for Congress up in the air in New Hampshire, DeRosa is hopeful the site will serve as a breeding ground for Republican thought and ideas.

ARTS: Her own path
Carolyn Parello paints memories of place

By Heidi Masek hmasek@hippopress.com

Carolyn Parello’s studio is in three rooms upstairs in what used to be a Sears building at 184 Main St. in Nashua. Her colorful oils are somewhat impressionist but mainly representative of urban landscapes — and some monsters.

LONGSHOTS: NBA rivalries have no rival in other team sports
by Dave Long

With the Celtics now out and L.A. waking up in the nick of time, NBA Commissioner David Stern is one step closer to the dream match-up the NBA, and it seems the world, wants to see: a Kobe Bryant vs. Lebron James, er, I mean, a Lakers-Cleveland final. I mean there’s even a national Web site at facebook.com/vitaminwater to vote on who’s better.

FOOD: Nibbling through downtown
Nashua holds its annual Taste event

By Linda A. Thompson-Odum food@hippopress.com

It’s still not too late to get tickets to the 15th annual Taste of Downtown Nashua on Wednesday, June 3, from 6 to 9 p.m. But don’t wait too much longer — this event is always a sellout.

TECHIE: Laptop control
Make your notebook a keyboard and screen
By John “jaQ” Andrews  jandrews@hippopress.com

A few weeks ago, you read about remote access software, letting you control a computer that’s not at your own desk. While software is great, it relies on the remote operating system running properly. If it locks up, or if you need to access some of the bootup utilities on your PC, software won’t cut it.

Dork vs. Dork: Terminator Salvation
Killbots need love too
By Glenn Given production@hippopress.com & Dan Szczesny dszczesny@hippopress.com

More like robutts. C’mon now, I think we’ve beaten the corpse of James Cameron’s sole novel idea into a fine powder. Did we really deserve another thwack across the gob with the “I don’t understand how time actually works” bat? And to staple it to the coattails of apparent Welsh psychopath Christian Bale as an all-growed-up Eddie Furlong? Ms. Take, Table for one! Hrmm, let me guess, Bale is going to heavy metal grunt his lines like an ape cast in a Beckett play by some coke-addled theater visionary. And the supporting cast of ... oh wait who the deuce are these no-listers. Common! A-ha! The poor man’s will.i.am (himself a poor man’s Ice-T) is the only name on the list that stands out and it does so as a dire warning!
