A conversation with Michael Buckley
By Susan Ware news@hippopress.com

Michael Buckley is one of the stars of the southern New Hampshire foodie world.

He opened Michael Timothy’s Urban Bistro, Wine & Jazz Bar, at 212 Main St. in Nashua, in 1995. The restaurant, famous for its New American-style cuisine, is a local favorite and was joined by Surf (across the street at 207 Main St.) in 2002 and Buckley’s Great Steaks (438 DW Highway in Merrimack) in 2005. With his wife Sarah an ever-present partner, Buckley, 43, has helped put this part of the Granite State on the foodie map. His restaurants are regularly recommended and discussed on the foodie discussion board Chowhound.com.

By Darry Madden news@hippopress.com

There’s no glamour in it, and there isn’t a whole lot of money either, but there is some kind of cache, some nostalgic idealism, some something in butchering that keeps us all on the lookout for that tiny storefront adorned with hanging steer and ropes upon ropes of fresh sausage, a pot-bellied man in a white apron inside, whistling while he works.

Longshots: Media and fans bias shades the severity of sports crime
by Dave Long

Ethics, cheating and stretching the rules are in the news these days. From Barry Bonds and allegations of steroid use to last week’s Videogate (and maybe worse on the horizon) the subject of cheating has been with us all summer. And even though it’s been treated that way by the 24/7 news cycle it’s nothing new. You have heard of the 1919 Black Sox scandal, right?

Techie: The more things chance
By John “jaQ” Andrews jandrews@hippopress.com

My, how things do change quickly in this business.
