Art Brut, Bang Bang Rock & Roll
Downtown Records, 2006
Art Brut is wetting its pants to tell you about how they?ve ?Formed a Band? so awesome that just a few notes from their first hit will unite Israel and Palestine, and they do so with a cockney soccer idiot?s innocence exploding with exclamation points. The Arctic Monkeys have nothing over these guys, whose loud, in-your-face cross between Clash, Sex Pistols and Gang of Four is a worthy counterpoint to indie snobbery (often it?s as though the Pitchfork-oramuses are the very butt of the joke). Their Shaun of the Dead joie de vivre doesn?t stop at whipping themselves into frenzies over thoughts of superstardom either; frontman Eddie Argos is equally spastic that ?My Little Brother just discovered rock and roll? and readily admits that ?Modern Art makes me want to rock out.? And girls? If ?Good Weekend? is to be believed, Eddie saw his brand new girlfriend naked - TWICE. Comes complete with vial of genuine spittle. B+
