Tenacious D, The Pick of Destiny Well this should fly off the shelves about as fast as the Spinal Tap soundtrack, although, unfortunately for the currently elite Jack Black and Dave Grohl, that spells a few off-the-social-road kids with more money than taste buying it as a mnemonic for the movie?s slapstick routines. There?s something a little wearying about Meatloaf making fun of himself, and not just because Bat Out of Hell was a joke few really got; he?s far enough past his prime that it would?ve been 10 times funnier to hear someone like My Chemical Romance bleating their hormonal self-centeredness fractionally more absurdly than they do now. Having Ronnie James Dio sing about being in an ?awesome band? is worth one of those forced half-smirks you throw Grandpa when he takes his dentures out and sings ?All I Want For Christmas is My Two Front Teeth,? but one universal itch does get scratched for posterity when the crew sings metal words and makes Jim Carrey noises to vocally impossible passages from Beethoven and Mozart standards (?Classico?).
