Representing for Northeast hip-hop Eight hip-hop artists share the bill at Milly’s Tavern next Saturday, March 28, for the second Queen City Jump Off. It’s an 18-plus show. Neglektid, a 20-year-old artist, is scheduled to perform. And while he’s only 20, he said he’s been writing since he was 13, started performing when he was 14 and cut his first studio demo when he was 16. He writes about things “that other people can relate to.” In recent years, he’s been experimenting with different sounds and different beats. “People don’t want to hear the same specific style,” he said. “Versatility is really important.” He’s got one song that has a grunge/hip-hop feel, “but it’s hip-hop all around,” he said. Hip-hop on the radio, like JAM’N 94.5, is mostly Southern hip-hop, he said. The Milly’s show has its own Northeast style. “It’s more realistic. It’s more down to earth,” he said. “It’s not about how many girls are in a club or the money flashing around.” But for the most part, the recording industry has yet to focus on anything out of the Northeast. “It’s definitely a struggle,” said Neglektid, whose real name is Eric Landry. “The overall area is difficult.” He’s even contemplating moving to Atlanta, Ga. in the next year. The scene is much bigger down there, but he hopes to take his Northeast music and make a living in the South. But the show at Milly’s is to show that there is a legit scene in southern New Hampshire. Concord’s Iceman is headlining the show. Mike Skillz, Fresh2Def, Sic Recordz, Mad Bwoy and Quiet Akillez all perform, with DJ Danjah spinning between sets.
