Q & A  — Robert E. Farrell, The Believer

Robert E. Farrell, The Believer

by Seth Hoy

Retired engineering professor Dr. Robert E. Farrell, believes they’re on their way. No, not his tax refund or his next Netflix order, but Them— extraterrestrials. He even wrote a sci-fi book about it, Alien Log, which he will sign at Barnes & Noble on Saturday, June 5. Although Alien Log is in a fictional format, Dr. Farrell’s message is anything but fiction. Professor turned UFO enthusiast, Dr. Farrell believes that alien lifeforms will make contact with us in his lifetime.

Q: So you recently retired from Penn State? What did you teach?

I was a professor at Penn State for 15 years in the engineering department.

Q: What is UFOlogy?

UFOlogy is the study of reports, sightings and other phenomena related to unidentified flying objects.

Q: Do you believe aliens really exist?

Yes. It’s a logical conclusion. Hard evidence is hard to come by, but can you prove to me God exists?

Q: So what is your new book, Alien Log, all about?

I’m the engineering type—interested in sciences my whole life. I’ve stuck close to biology, genetics, physics and the mainstream sciences. I use them in my book and explain them in a well-documented fashion. It’s sci-fi, so I don’t use footnotes, but the book’s main character, Colonel Mitchell, is heading up a team under the direction of the President. He’s a retired Air Force Colonel put in charge of a project to figure out what a lost piece of alien spacecraft is for. The other main character is a linguist by name of Wendy. She, at 27, can translate any written script without knowing how she does it. She’s paired with a young astrophysicist with a passion for UFOs. Together, the team tours a crash site and sees a dead alien body. Wendy gets device working and finds out what the aliens are really up to.

Q: You said that good science fiction is based on real science. How did you go about researching the book?

I ...read everything I could find on UFOs. A number of books were written by people with Ph.D.’s in astronomy, psychology and engineering. ... These people are not slouches. They’re serious and searching for answers just like me. They’re all wondering why the government doesn’t tell us the truth. Everyone in this room at these conferences already believes, you just need to get the general populace thinking about it. That’s why I wrote the book. If I wrote it in a science fiction format, people are more willing to read it instead of going into the New Age section of the book store.

Q: Sometimes you give lectures, what do you talk about?

I cover various issues including crop circles, Big Bang Theory, Sumarians, in a visual manner. I give the lecture as though I’m the characters in my story. For example, when Wendy says, ‘Do you think crop circle are real?’ I show real crop circles slides.

Q: Did you find anything that surprised you during your research?

It gets stranger and stranger. Being an down to earth person, I never thought about the spiritual issues in the sense of, let’s say, recalling past lives. I never thought about that. It didn’t make sense but now I believe it . We do live through multiple lives. I was also surprised to learn about remote viewing where people actually sit in a room and have the ability to use some other coordinate.

Q: Do you think the government knows something we don’t?

They know everything! They have actual craft. They try to reverse engineer the technology.

Q: What would it mean for human beings if aliens did exist?

If they’re prepared for it, they won’t be threatened. I think some people will panic no matter what. I would probably welcome them and ask them why they’re here.

Q: What do you say to people who think Ets and UFOS are flukes?

I’d say there is a wealth of evidence out there. Unfortunately I can’t give them a piece of a UFO.
