New Hampshire: a UFO paradise
by Will Stewart
According to Nashua resident Mark Petty, a field investigator with the Massachusetts chapter of the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), New Hampshire has “a long and lustrous history with UFO phenomenon.”
What is possibly the first picture taken of a supposed UFO was snapped over Mt. Washington during the winter of 1870. The photo shows a cigar-shaped object floating over the summit of the mountain.
And according to the website of the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC), 165 UFO sightings in New Hampshire have been made to the organization since the late 1950s, including several here in Nashua.
The most recent sighting reported in the Gate City was made Oct. 18, 2003. A man reported that as he was looking south he saw eight to 12 bright, round objects flying in an easterly direction at a “normal” speed. The witness said after about one minute the objects disappeared behind some clouds and did not reappear.
In all, Nashua has four sightings listed on the group’s website.
NUFORC’s website also has an account of one witness claiming to see a diamond-shaped object firing laser beams at, and causing the destruction of, the Old Man in the Mountain on May 15, 2003.
The New Hampshire chapter of MUFON reports on its website that it is currently investigating three reported UFO cases in the Granite State. The first, reported over Pittsburg, involves a white ball of light floating over Black Lake in June 2002.
The second took place in January 2002, when a white orb with red lights around it hovered over a sand pit located in the yard of a Freimont family. The third was sighted in July 2000 in the North Country. A couple driving from Colebrook to Littleton on Route 3 reported that a neon green capsule-shaped object began following their Jeep.
