News in brief
By Jeff Mucciarone jmucciarone@hippopress.com

• Business outreach sessions: Businesses in the Nashua area will get a chance to meet with state officials on Thursday, Sept. 9, for an outreach session to help connect business owners with available resources and to answer questions businesses might have regarding regulations. The state has held previous outreach sessions with businesses in Lebanon, Laconia and Manchester. The meetings are a chance for business leaders to get answers to their questions from state agency heads, Gov. John Lynch said in a press release. During Lynch’s series of jobs roundtable discussions earlier this year, business leaders asked about what state services were available to help them expand their companies and become more competitive. Others asked about regulations. The outreach sessions stem from the roundtable discussions. The two-hour meeting in Nashua will take place at Nashua Community College at 7:30 a.m. The commissioners of the Department of Employment Security, Resources and Economic Development, Labor, Insurance, Environmental Services and Administrative Services, as well as officials from the Community College System of New Hampshire, will be present at the meeting.

Cyanobacteria gets around New Hampshire
By Jeff Mucciarone jmucciarone@hippopress.com

The long-term effects of contact with cyanobacteria are a little scary — damage to the central nervous system, kidney or liver. In the short term, it might cause skin irritation, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea. On the bright side, it’s naturally occurring.
