More off-putting yet non-horrible nerd-dance-electro from the Norwegian 6-piece. Geographically, Norway is near Iceland, at least close enough for Sigur Ros’s psychosis to spread there, thus likewise from Casiokids you get falsetto vocals sung in a weird language (though these guys actually sing in their actual tongue instead of Nell gibberish), and bizarre concerts in their history (12 dates at various kindergartens in this case). There the similarity ends; the appropriately named Casiokids are bucking for a tour with Vampire Weekend, what with their mildly catchy post-nu-rave dance ideas, ’70s Afrobeat obsession and a pretty good handle on turning Nintendo keyboards into things that’ll blow up disaffected dance floors from here to Hong Kong. NME and Pitchfork will both pretend they discovered these guys first while the other 7 billion people on the planet go about their business, but if you’ve always wanted to hear a mixture of New Order, Klaxons, Astral Matrix and Fela Kuti — and who hasn’t — salvation is a download away.
