Which Nutcracker, Christmas Carol will it be?

 Every year in New Hampshire, Christmas trees grow to enormous heights, the Sugar Plum fairy twirls onstage and Scrooge is visited by three ghosts. It’s tradition. Lucky for you, there are many choices in where, when and how to experience this tradition — choose your own adventure.

 
The Palace Theatre (80 Hanover St., Manchester) hosts Southern New Hampshire Dance Theater’s The Nutcracker, accompanied by a live orchestra led by Grammy Award-winning conductor John McLaughlin Williams. Showtimes are Friday, Nov. 28, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Nov. 29, at 11 a.m., 4 and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Nov. 30, at 1 and 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 to $45; call 668-5588.
The New England Dance Ensemble’s version of The Nutcracker happens at Windham High School, 64 London Bridge Road, Windham, on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 2 and 7 p.m., and on Sunday, Nov. 30, at 2 p.m. The ballet features soloists from New York City’s American Ballet Theatre, including Misty Copeland, Sterling Baca, Catherin Hurlin and Sungwoo Han. The Hampstead Stage Company presents an interactive version of A Christmas Carol in the Dover Public Library’s Lecture Hall, 73 Locust St., Dover, on Tuesday, Dec. 2, at 6:30 p.m. Performed by two professional actors in multiple roles, it will be complete with realistic sets and costumes designed with historical research in mind. The Players’ Ring (105 Marcy St., Portsmouth, 436-8123, playersring.org) hosts a rendition of A Christmas Carol directed by Jennifer Henry from Dec. 5 through Dec. 23. Tickets are $15 per person.
The Leddy Center for the Performing Arts (38C Ladd’s Lane, Epping, 679-2781, leddycenter.org) presents its version of A Christmas Carol Dec. 5 through Dec. 14, with shows Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30 p.m., Sundays and Wednesdays at 2 p.m., and school shows at 10 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 8; Wednesday, Dec. 10; and Friday, Dec. 12. Directed by Elaine Gatchell, with music direction by Bruce Gatchell. Tickets are $16 to $18. 
The Palace Theatre (80 Hanover St., Manchester) presents A Christmas Carol Dec. 5 through Dec. 21. A Christmas tradition, the play will comprise more than 50 actors; tickets cost $15 to $45. The Pinkerton Players present A Christmas Carol this year too, on Thursday, Dec. 11, at 7 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 13, at 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m., at the Stockbridge Theatre, 5 Pinkerton St., Derry. Sole City Dance presents its rendition of The Nutcracker at the Rochester Opera House, 31 Wakefield St., Rochester, on Friday, Dec. 12, at 7 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 13, at 2 and 7 p.m. Tickets are $24 for adults, $20 for for seniors and kids 12 and younger. St. Paul’s School Ballet Company presents The Nutcracker: Act II on Friday, Dec. 12, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 13, at 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m., in Memorial Hall at St. Paul’s School, 325 Pleasant St., Concord, 229-5626. Admission to the show is free, with seating available on a first-come, first-served basis. Each show lasts one hour, and the house will open 30 minutes before curtain. SPSBC invites guests to bring toy donations for holiday distribution to local children through Concord charitable organizations (though they should not exceed $25 and should not be wrapped).                             
The Turning Pointe Center of Dance presents The Nutcracker on Saturday, Dec. 13, at 2 p.m., at the Concord City Auditorium, 2 Prince St., Concord. Tickets are $15, available by calling 485-8710, emailing tpcd@comcast.net, or visiting turningpointecenterofdance.com.
The Peacock Players youth theater group presents A Christmas Carol at the Janice B. Streeter Theatre, 14 Court St., Nashua, on Thursday, Dec. 18, at 7 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 20, at 2 and 7 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12 to $17; visit peacockplayers.org, call 886-7000 (box office) or 889-2330 (general) to order tickets.
The  Rochester Opera House, 31 Wakefield St., Rochester, rochesteroperahouse.com, presents a contemporary version of A Christmas Carol; director Shay Willard has woven the magic into a family-friendly story with a contemporary setting, with modern and classical music performed live. Tickets are $16, and showtimes are Thursday, Dec. 18, at 7:30 p.m.; Friday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, Dec. 20, at 2 and 7:30 p.m.; and Sunday, Dec. 21, at 2 p.m. Visit communitypartnersnh.org.
The New Hampshire School of Ballet presents its version of The Nutcracker on Friday, Dec. 19, at 7 p.m., at the Concord City Auditorium, 2 Prince St., Concord, complete with falling snow and growing tree. Tickets are $15; call 668-5330 or email reinert@comcast.net.
Gate City Ballet performs The Nutcracker at the Stockbridge Theatre, 5 Pinkerton St., Derry, on Friday, Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m., and Saturday, Dec. 20, at 1 and 6 p.m. Tickets are $18 each; call 437-5210, visit gatecityballet.com.
The Music Hall, 28 Chestnut St., Portsmouth, will host An 1836 Portsmouth Nutcracker on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 2 and 7 p.m., and on Sunday, Dec. 21, at 2:30 p.m. There are “Nutcracker in a Nutshell” performances on Saturday, Dec. 20, at 10 a.m., and Sunday, Dec. 21, at 11:30 a.m. Presented by Great Bay Academy of Dance, the show is now in its 27th year at The Music Hall. Tickets are $28-$44.
