Festive first night fun
Variety is the spice of New Year’s Eve

To celebrate the new year in New Hampshire, you can dress up for a black-tie Roaring Twenties ball, enjoy a comedy show, rock out with television stars or just party up while singing karaoke. There’s a little bit of everything in the way of choices to ring in 2015; most, if not all, include party hats, noisemakers and a flute of bubbly at midnight. Here are some to consider.

AJ’s Sports Bar (11 Tracy Lane, Hudson, 718-1102) Crave comes by to welcome in 2015.
Alan’s (133 N. Main St., Boscawen, 753-6631) Almost Even plays rock covers.
Alpine Club (175 Putnam St., Manchester, 782-8489) Manchuka brings the funk to a normally members-only venue.
American Legion (189 Mechanic St., Lebanon, 448-9812) Wise Guys perform at 7:30 p.m. following dinner at 6:30, $20.
Arena Sports Bar & Nightclub (53 High St., Nashua, 881-9060) Lauren Bancroft and Alana Susko host a comedy dinner show 7 to 9 p.m. ($40 per person, $75 per couple), then dancing with DJ Danjah hosted by Shawn P. Collins with party favors and midnight toast ($15 per person)
Barley House (132 North Main St., Concord  228-6363) is gearing up to toast away 2014 with a special menu, live jazz music from 6-9 and more.
Bedford Village Inn (2 Olde Bedford Way, Bedford, 472-2001)  It’s a Prix Fixe New Year’s Eve menu with toasting beverages to carry you through to 2015. Adult $75.00 (plus tax/gratuity) and a limited a la carte tavern menu available in  Tavern and Corks only.
Blue Mermaid Island Grill (409 The Hill, Portsmouth, 427-2583) Enjoy music from the Blue Mermaid All Stars, a specially assembled band.
Blue Ocean Music Hall (4 Ocean Front North, Salisbury, Mass., 978-462-5888) The Fools play fun rock ’n’ roll songs like “Psycho Chicken” following a 7 p.m. buffet dinner.
Breezeway Pub (14 Pearl St., Manchester, 621-9111) Drag show, DJ, noisemakers, no cover.
Bridgewater Inn & Motel (367 Mayhew Turnpike, Bristol, 744-3518) Classic rock band Shedlane in the tavern with DJ playing all night long, party hats and tiaras, noisemakers, beads, glow bracelets and champagne toast all for $10 a person. All-you-can-eat prime rib buffet is $25.
British Beer Company (1071 S. Willow St., Manchester, 232-0677) Juke Joint Five plays rock covers while the beer flows.
British Beer Company (103 Hanover St. at Portwalk Place, Portsmouth, 501-0515) Tim Theriault entertains — yell Happy New Year at 7 if you like.
Brookline Events Center (32 Proctor Hill Road, Brookline, 673-4474) It’s a country dance with DJs Bernie & Bob. You must be a member to attend, but that’s easy to do — just call. Expect no-frills fun with some appetizers and snacks. Entry will be $10.
Canoe Club (27 S. Main St., Hanover, 643-9660) Bob Lucier (piano) & Scott Paulsen perform at this swank bistro.
Cara Irish Pub & Restaurant (11 Fourth St., Dover, 343-4390) It’s a Black & White Ball with a DJ challenge featuring at least five turntablists in Chameleon Club, the upstairs club featuring state-of-the-art light, sound and visual effects. Downstairs, acoustic acts entertain. 
Central Ale House (23 Central St., Manchester, 660-2241) There’s a party at this newly remodeled pub, but no one knows exactly what that means at press time.
Chop Shop Pub & Grub (920 Lafayette Road, Seabrook, 760-7706) $35 at the door, big party with three bands — Doubleshot Boston plays top 40, Innerchild rocks hard and American Ride Maine plays. Adult Twister and surprise guest appearance that’s a secret.
City Sports Grille (216 Maple St., Manchester, 625-9656) Family New Year’s Eve party from 4 to 6 p.m. for $49.95 and 7 to 9 p.m. for $54.95 includes two-hour lane rentals, music laser light show, pizza, soda, noisemakers, etc. Then adult party is 10 p.m. to 1 a.m., $20 per person and $35 per couple
Club Manchvegas (50 Old Granite St., Manchester, 222-1677) Tom Dixon Band brings its unique brand of country rock back from Dixon’s current abode in Nashville for a much-anticipated homecoming show.
Coach Stop Tavern (176 Mammoth Road, Londonderry, 437-2022) Steve Tolley performs an early set.
Coat of Arms (174 Fleet St., Portsmouth, 431-0407) Enjoy a Greenwich Mean Time toast, sing “Auld Lang Syne” and dance to music from an WXGR DJ with party favors and a toast at midnight.
Common Man (88 Range Road, Windham, 898-0088) Karen Grenier mixes originals with an extensive catalog of cover tunes.
• Concord Holiday Inn (Pleasant Street, Concord, 224-9534) Comedy hypnotist Frank Santos Jr. performs with comedienne Jody Sloane followed by DJ dancing at $75 per person, $150 per couple — tickets include three-course dinner.
Copper Door (15 Leavy Drive, Bedford, 488-2677) Kim Riley Duo performs an early set.
Cork n Keg (4 Essex Drive, Raymond, 244-1573) Live entertainment is expected; no cover, Champagne, balloon drops and perhaps an ugly sweater contest.
Derryfield Country Club (625 Mammoth Road, Manchester, 623-2880) Mugsy plays hard rock covers, with $10 tickets including toast with party favors.
Dolphin Striker (15 Bow St., Portsmouth, 431-5222) Bob Halprin plus a $50 three-course dinner and a midnight toast.
Dover Brick House (2 Orchard St., Dover, 749-3838) A three-band event — Amulus takes New Year’s Eve seriously, while People Skills are lots of fun and By Design also gets in on the action.
Drynk (20 Old Granite St., Manchester, 641-2583) Biggest party of the year with DJs Jason Spivak, Josh Porter and J Box — $20 early tickets at the club.
Ellacoya Barn & Grille (2667 Lakeshore Road, Gilford, 293-8700) Doug Mitchell performs.
Fireside Inn (25 Airport Road, West Lebanon, 298-5900) Conniption Fits plays the first live music in 10 years at this Inn, with multiple ticketing options including $125 with overnight room.
Fody’s Tavern (9 Clinton St., Nashua, 577-9015) Have fun at a masquerade party, with Hunter playing alt rock music.
Fratello’s (155 Dow St., Manchester, 624-2022) Paul Luff plays an early set from 7:30 to 11 p.m.
Fury’s Publick House (1 Washington St., Dover, 617-3633) Soggy Po’ Boys play rootsy, rustic sounds.
Gary’s (38 Milton Road, Rochester, 335-4279) Beloved cover band Spiral Circus performs.
Gauchos Churrascaria (62 Lowell Street, Manchester, 669-9460) DJ music and a $40 buffet ($20 party only after 9 p.m.).
Governor’s Inn & Restaurant (78 Wakefield St., Rochester, 332-0107) It’s a comedy ball with Larry Norton, the Comic on a Harley, including a prime rib buffet. Enjoy comedy and then dancing into the new year; tickets are $65 including tax and gratuity.
Grappone Center (7 Constitution Ave, Concord, 369-7889) Dusty Gray Band and DJ Nazzy from 105.5 JYY entertain at the Concord 250/Concord Family YMCA New Year’s Eve Gala, $75 per person.
Gunstock Ski Area (719 Cherry Valley Road, Gilford, 293-4341) Nobody’s Fault plays hard rock covers at this snowy party.
Haluwa Lounge (Nashua Mall, Nashua, 883-6662) Rock City plays with a dinner buffet from 4 to 10 p.m.;  no cover, Champagne toast.
Headliners Comedy Club (700 Elm St., Manchester, 625-1000) One of the year’s biggest parties with four comics in one room and Dueling Pianos in another, with a full complement of food, drink and dancing.
Hermanos (11 Hills Ave., Concord, 224-5669) Mike Morris plays an entertaining mix of covers and originals.
Hilton Garden Inn (100 High St., Portsmouth, 431-1499) Dave Gerard of Truffle performs.
Holy Grail Food & Spirits (64 Main St., Epping 679-9559) has a bevy of dining specials followed by entertainment from Robert Charles.
Homestead (641 Daniel Webster Highway, Merrimack, 429-2022) Brad Bosse plays an early set.
Imperial Lounge (154 Washington St., Claremont, 542-8833) Roadhouse performs hard rock covers.
J’s Tavern (63 Union Square, Milford, 554-1433) Rumblefish performs rock covers.
Jade Dragon (1087 Elm St., Manchester, 782-3255) A DJ plays dance music with party favors and midnight toast.
Jewel (61 Canal St., Manchester, 836-1152) 4x4 Barracuda and four more cover bands perform an inaugural New Year’s Eve show at a new home for live music in the Queen City.
JT’s Bar and Grill (326 S. Broadway, Salem, 893-4055) Hazzard Country plays country music.
Karma Hookah & Cigar Bar (Elm Street, Manchester, 647-6653) Michael Fioretti is both a guitar maker and a guitar player; he performs at this popular downtown smoke spot.
Margate Resort (76 Lake St., Laconia, 524-5210) Along with DJ music, Undercover Operatives play hits from the ’50s through ’80s. $249-$339 inclusive with hotel, buffet dinner, with complimentary Champagne and ball drop; there’s a breakfast buffet in the morning.  
Martingale Wharf (99 Bow St., Portsmouth, 431-0901) Josh Logan of The Voice performs at what should be a memorable party.
Milly’s Tavern (500 Commercial St., Manchester, 625-4444) DJ Red plays an epic set of hits in the back room.
Molly’s Tavern (35 Mont Vernon Road, New Boston, 487-2011) Entertainment is happening, but is not yet announced; call for details.
Mountain Club On Loon (90 Loon Mountain Road, Lincoln, 229-7829) Jimmy & Marcelle along with Bob Rutheford cover the action in two different rooms.
Murphy’s Taproom (494 Elm St., Manchester 644-3535) Soundtrack to Monday promises a raucous First Night party.
New Socials (2 Pleasant St., Claremont, 287-4416) Bootleggers Ball is a Roaring 20s themed party with dinner and DJ music. $10 cover.
Oar House (55 Ceres St., Portsmouth, 436-4025) Rick Watson plays favorites.
One Mile West Tavern (6 Brook Road, Sunapee, 863-7500) The Moores entertain, an annual tradition at this Sunapee Lake region restaurant and bar.
Palace Theatre (80 Hanover St., Manchester, 668-5588) Recycled Percussion is home for the holidays — ring in 2015 with junk rock.
• Pat’s Peak Ski Area (686 Flanders Road, Henniker, 428-3245) Family celebration with dancing to The McMurphys, comedy show featuring Stephen Bjork, Chris Pennie and Mickie Fizzi, fireworks and lots of food — party/skiing $50-$90, party only $35-$70, skiing only $38 and tubing only $20.
Patrick’s (18 Weirs Road, Gilford, 293-0841) Same as it ever was with the infamous No Hassle No Frills Party. Just the basics and lots of good energy.
Peddler’s Daughter (48 Main St., Nashua, 821-7535) Something is planned, but you’ll have to call the club for more information.
Penuche’s Ale House (6 Pleasant St., Concord, 228-9833) Blacklight Ruckus is a favorite at this basement bar.
Pit Road Lounge (388 Loudon Road, Concord, 226-0533) Stray Dog performs at a party with a $20 cover that includes midnight champagne toast and party favors.
Pitman’s Freight Room (94 New Salem St., Laconia, 527-0043) Racky Thomas Blues Band plays, $35, BYOB, champagne toast at midnight. Please call for reservations.
Portsmouth Book & Bar (40 Pleasant St., Portsmouth, 427-9197) People Like You appear at a special New Year’s party, with tickets $8 in advance or $10 at the door.
Portsmouth Gas Light (64 Market St., Portsmouth, 430-9122) A triple treat, with the elegant and swanky Gatsby Party upstairs, Joe Rivet playing in the Grille and Johnny Angel in the Pizza Pub.
