Red, White & Green
Bottles for the budget-conscious wine lover

08/28/14

This week, we enjoyed a couple of fresh and pretty-tasting wines.

The 2012 Josh Chardonnay from California ($15.99) is a pale gold-colored wine. We detected notes of sweet apple, flowers and honey on the nose. The flavor offers a bit more toastiness than the nose suggests, but the wine is round without being overly buttery or oaky. There are nice notes of tartness that also help to give this chardonnay some balance.

The 2013 DMZ Cabernet Rosé from South Africa ($13.99 from Wine-ing Butcher in Bedford) is a bright rosy pink rosé. We detected notes of melon, watermelon and, well, red wine on the nose, which one of us also said had some of the “French” terroir aromas. The flavor was fresh, like a fresh grapefruit, with nice tannic notes.

Each week in “Red, White & Green,” the wine-lovers taste red and white wines that sell for not too much of the green, less than $20. The goal? To find a good bottle without breaking the bank. Unless otherwise noted, the prices listed are what you’ll find the bottles selling for at the New Hampshire Wine & Liquor Outlet
